Momo vs Dumplings: What Makes Nepalese Momo Unforgettable

Dumplings have carved out a special spot in dining traditions all over the world — from the beloved Chinese jiaozi to the delightful Japanese gyoza and many more. However, among all these varieties, Nepalese momo hold a unique identity that goes far beyond being just another dumpling. At Dé Buddha, momo are more than just a meal; they embody a rich celebration of tradition, skill, and incredible flavour.

Momo are made to excite your taste buds — they’re juicy on the inside, soft on the outside, and perfectly seasoned with spices.

Why Nepalese Momo Win the Taste Test

1. Depth of Flavour

Nepalese momo are made with care, using spices that complement the main ingredient without overwhelming it. Each bite is a delightful mix of warmth, aroma, and richness.

2. Handmade Craftsmanship

Unlike mass-produced dumplings, authentic momo are hand-folded. This process requires patience, skill, and care; we proudly uphold these standards at Dé Buddha.

3. Perfect Pairing with Chutney

Momo just wouldn’t be the same without their chutney. The delightful contrast between the soft, juicy momo and the zesty, tangy chutney creates a flavour experience that you just don’t find with most dumplings.

How Dé Buddha Prepares Authentic Chicken Momo

At Dé Buddha, every momo is crafted with a focus on quality and authenticity.

We start by choosing top-notch chicken breast, making sure it’s tender and fresh. The chicken is then finely chopped and gently ground to create a soft, smooth mince that serves as the base for our filling.

Next, we take our time to carefully prepare the flavouring ingredients, mixing them right into the mince. We season everything with just the right amount of salt and traditional spices that enhance the natural flavours without overpowering them.
Once the filling is ready, it gets placed right in the centre of each freshly rolled dough circle. Each momo is then hand-folded and shaped with care and precision, sticking to the traditional Nepalese style.
The wrapped momo are placed right into the steamer, where they’re gently cooked for about 10 to 15 minutes. This technique helps to lock in all that moisture, giving you momo that are not only soft and juicy but also bursting with flavour.
Finally, they come out hot and are served with our signature chutney — the perfect finishing touch!

Why Momo Are More Than Just Dumplings

Momo represent togetherness, tradition, and comfort. In Nepalese culture, they’re not just a dish; they’re a part of celebrations, gatherings, and even everyday life. This deep emotional bond, paired with their incredible flavour, is what makes momo truly unforgettable.
At Dé Buddha, we truly embrace this tradition by serving momo just the way they’re meant to be enjoyed— fresh, handmade, and bursting with soul.
